History
Schneider's history dates back to 1865, in Basle, Switzerland, when it capitalized on the need for professional services. In addition to transporting goods between the three main stations in Basle, the company organized groupage services abroad, e.g. exporting cheese to Russia or, later, textiles from eastern Switzerland to the fashion capital of the world, Paris.
After a short period in the hands of a multi-national, in 1986, Schneider regained its independence, constructing its own logistics platform in Saint-Louis, France, and establishing offices in France and the Netherlands. This added to the existing company network in Switzerland and a presence in the USA.
Continuity in management and ownership, the deployment of high-quality IT systems, the opening up of the Board of Directors to non-family members and a far-sighted succession plan all ensure the value of the Schneider Group within the freight forwarding/logistics industry.
